Your questions, answered — everything you need to know about PMU + fine line tattoos.

We know deciding on permanent makeup or a fine line tattoo is a big step — and with that comes lots of questions. This page is here to give you clear, straightforward answers so you feel confident and prepared before booking your service.

At Ivey Artistry Studios, we’re dedicated to creating beautiful, natural results in a safe, professional, and welcoming environment. Whether you’re curious about brows, lips, liner, or delicate tattoos, you’ll find the most common answers below. If your question isn’t listed, don’t hesitate to reach out — we’re always here to help.

  • Permanent makeup is a form of cosmetic tattooing that enhances natural features like brows, lips, and eyes. We use advanced techniques and machines to implant pigment into the skin for soft, natural-looking results.

  • Results typically last 1–3 years depending on the procedure, skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare. Annual or biennial touch-ups are recommended to keep your look fresh.

  • Discomfort is minimal. We use high-quality numbing agents to keep you as comfortable as possible during your procedure. Most clients describe the sensation as light scratching or pressure.

    • Microblading uses a manual blade to create hair-like strokes, best for normal/dry skin.

    • Nano brows are created with a machine and ultra-fine needles, offering softer, more natural strokes with better retention (great for all skin types).

    • Airy powder brows give a soft, shaded look similar to makeup, customizable from natural to bold.

  • Avoid caffeine, alcohol, blood-thinning medications, tanning, and retinol for 24–48 hours before your session. Arrive with clean skin and bring inspiration photos if you’d like.

  • Brows, lips, or liner will appear darker or more intense at first. Over the next 7–14 days, they’ll flake or peel, then soften into their healed color. Full healing takes about 4–6 weeks.

  • You’ll want to avoid makeup on the treated area until it’s fully healed (about 7–10 days). You can wear makeup elsewhere as usual.

  • PMU may not be suitable for individuals who are pregnant, nursing, on certain medications, or with specific medical conditions. A consultation is always recommended.

FINE LINE TATTOOS

  • Fine line tattoos use delicate, single-needle or small-needle techniques to create detailed, minimalistic designs. They’re perfect for subtle, elegant body art.

  • Because the lines are thinner and more delicate, fine line tattoos may fade or blur faster over time compared to bold traditional tattoos. Placement and aftercare play a big role in longevity.

  • With proper aftercare, they can last many years, but touch-ups may be desired every few years to keep the lines sharp.

  • Pain varies depending on placement and individual tolerance. Most clients describe it as mild to moderate discomfort.

  • Keep the area clean, moisturized, and avoid soaking or direct sun exposure during healing. Detailed aftercare instructions will be provided at your appointment.

  • Absolutely! You can bring inspiration photos or work with us to create a custom piece that reflects your style.
